Our Climate House will close on February 26, 2024. The greenhouse will be renovated for a year and will undergo a completely sustainable transformation. This week is your last chance to visit!
There are very few places where you can walk directly from the subtropics via the desert into the tropics… The Climate House is a real eye-catcher in the garden and especially outside of it.
The greenhouse was built in 1993 and is therefore in need of renovation; the Hortus takes this opportunity to also make the greenhouse completely sustainable – in line with its own mission – and to provide it with an important educational goal. In 2025, the large greenhouse on the Nieuwe Herengracht will become the first sustainable, gas-free public greenhouse in the Netherlands, and the only place where the importance of plant biodiversity and the relationship with climate is being told. The Climate House will open again in June 2025. The rest of the garden and greenhouses will remain open for the public!
