The Hortus will be open extra long again this winter with the ‘Hortus by Night’ evenings.
Put on your thick sweater and admire the botanical garden at night. The Hortus creates a cozy winter atmosphere with countless glittering and colourful lights in the garden. Warm up by the campfire on our terrace or go on a romantic evening walk. Fancy something more adventurous? In our greenhouses you can go on an excursion through the night: enter the wonderful world of night bloomers.
Us humans (usually) lie safely tucked in our beds and many animals rest in their homely shelter. Nature seems peaceful at night. But is it really? Countless plants open their fragrant flowers at night, like in a fairytale. Because there are hungry night flyers looking for a midnight snack!
We look forward to seeing you in the garden for a romantic evening walk, an exciting story around the campfire or a night tour through our greenhouses! This year the lighting in the garden and greenhouses will be provided by designer and technical producer Tim Vermeulen: “I have attempted to establish a relationship with the plants and the garden by using my own frame of reference, in which fairy tales and magical realism play an important role.” His beautiful light work can be seen in the outdoor gardens and in the greenhouses.
The Hortus by Night evening openings are on:
December 21 to 24, December 27 to 30 and January 2 to 7, until 10:00 PM.
