Reopening of the Hortus

The Hortus is reopening!

After 10 long weeks of being closed our friends, neighbours and other visitors can enjoy our garden and collection again. The Hortus will open in phases. From 30 May onwards, the Hortus will be open to everyone.

Visit us by bike, car or on foot. Do not use public transport to avoid overcrowding the public transport network.

Book a time slot online

To visit the Hortus it is required to reserve a time slot before your visit, also for members of the Friends Society a reservation is mandatory. We cannot guarantee access to the Hortus without a reserved time slot. You can reserve a time slot in our online ticketshop.
By working this way we want to avoid long queues and crowds at the checkout. The safety and health of visitors and employees is of primary importance during a visit. Of course, you may stay as long as you wish.

Guidelines to your Hortus visit

By selling a limited number of tickets per time slot, we can offer all our visitors a safe and easy walk through the garden. The Hortus has taken various measures to guarantee the safety of our visitors and employees.

In order to guarantee all our visitors a safe visit, some rules of conduct have been set up:
• If your company does not share a household, we ask you to follow the RIVM measures.
• On footpaths there is always a 1.5 meter distance to others.
• When using the benches, keep in mind the distance and space to other visitors.
• Touch as few doors as possible and use the hygiene facilities in the garden where you can wash your hands.
• Show respect to our employees. To be able to carry out their work safely, you may have to walk around or wait a while.
• For narrow paths, one-way traffic applies; we ask you to follow the green arrows in the garden.
• Due to the small space, the Butterfly Greenhouse and the Greenhouse Room are temporarily not accessible to the public.
• The Hortuscafé is open! The refreshments may be consumed in the garden, on the terrace or in the Orangery.
• The store is also open again, because of the small space a limited number of people are allowed.
• Please follow the instructions of our staff.

We would like to point out that our regular house rules also apply when visiting the Hortus. Within the gates of the Hortus the current safety and contact measures of the government apply.

The Hortus has set up an extensive protocol containing measures and conditions to be open to visitors and employees with attention to safety and hygiene. The complete protocol (in Dutch) can be read HERE.

What we ask of you:

The Hortus follows the Dutch national policy (set out by RIVM). It is therefore preferable to visit on your own or with members of your household. Visitors who are ill and/or have complaints such as a nose cold, runny nose, sore throat, light cough or tightness and/or fever (up to 38 degrees Celsius) are requested to stay at home. Also stay at home if one of the family members has these symptoms.

Visit us by bike, car or on foot. Do not use public transport to avoid overcrowding the public transport network. Nearby parking facilities are Markenhoven and Stadhuis – Muziektheater.

Please note the applicable 1.5 meter distance rules and safety measures in the Hortus:
– Keep a minimum distance of 1.5 meters to other visitors and employees;
– Cough or sneeze in the elbow;
– Wash or disinfect your hands regularly.
– Pay contactless everywhere
