Wheelchair accessibility

Wheelchair reservation
The Hortus is accessible for wheelchair users. The garden paths are covered with gravel. For visitors with limited mobility, the Hortus has a free wheelchair to use. You can reserve this wheelchair by emailing [email protected].

Mobility scooters
You are welcome to visit the Hortus with your mobility scooter. Please note that many of the paths in the garden and greenhouses have limited accessibility for mobility scooters. The paths are gravel and can be quite narrow in some areas. We kindly ask that you adjust your speed to match that of walking visitors. This is to ensure the safety of yourself, other visitors, and our plant collection.

Accessible restroom
There is an accessible restroom located in the Hortus Café. It can be reached via a separate wheelchair ramp behind the terrace.

Preventing overstimulation

Be aware of high temperatures in the greenhouses, especially during warm summer days. The tropical greenhouse is very humid.

Light reflection from the greenhouse windows can be intense, especially in summer and during low sun in spring and autumn.

No music is played in the Orangerie. You can sit either indoors or outside on the terrace. Please note that the café and terrace can get busy during lunchtime.

Quiet hours
The Hortus is open daily from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Prefer to visit during a quieter time? Plan your visit outside of weekends and school holidays. The hours between 10:00–11:00 AM and 4:00–5:00 PM are usually relatively calm.

The Hortus may be busier during events. We recommend checking our event calendar before your visit.
