Entering the Hortus is at your own risk. To protect both yourself and the plant collection, we kindly ask you to follow our house rules.
Please respect the garden and your fellow visitors: keep the garden clean, remain calm, and help us maintain a safe, beautiful, and serene environment.

Visitor rules
- Access to the Hortus is only permitted with a valid admission ticket.
- The Oranjerie is part of the Hortus. Access to the café is only possible with a valid garden admission ticket.
- Children must always be accompanied by an adult. Please note that the garden contains several ponds and poisonous plants.
- Dogs and other pets are not allowed in the Hortus. Only guide dogs are permitted – and must remain on a lead at all times.
- (Rolling) suitcases or large (travel) backpacks are not permitted in the garden. We do not provide a cloakroom or lockers, and items cannot be left with the porter, in the shop, or in the café for safekeeping.
- It is not permitted to consume your own food or drinks in the Oranjerie or on the terrace.
- Bicycles, mopeds, scooters, pushchairs, or mobility scooters may not be parked on the entrance square in front of the porter’s lodge.
- Entry to the Hortus is at your own risk. Visitors must remain on the designated paths. Some plants are poisonous or have thorns, and there are open water features in the garden.
- It is strictly forbidden to pick, break off, or remove any plants. Visitors are also not allowed to take away any fruit, flowers, seeds, eggs, caterpillars, or butterflies. The consumption of any fruit or seeds from the plants is prohibited.
- The garden and glasshouses of the Hortus are smoke-free zones.
- The use, possession, or trade of drugs is strictly forbidden within the Hortus.
- Carrying weapons of any kind – including bladed, striking, or firearms – is strictly prohibited.
- Photography and filming are permitted for personal use only. If you wish to take photographs or film for publications, advertising, or other promotional purposes, please contact the Hortus in advance via +31 (0)20 7025 410. The Hortus applies hourly rates for commercial photography and filming in the garden and glasshouses. The use of drones is not permitted.
- In the museum café, the use of laptops and mobile phones is discouraged.
- Playing music from personal devices is not allowed anywhere in the Hortus. Balls, frisbees, or other play equipment may not be used in the garden.
- Do not throw stones, sand, branches, or any other material into the ponds.
- All visitors are expected to behave respectfully and to ensure the safety and comfort of themselves and others.Hortus staff reserve the right to ask visitors to leave the premises.
All visitors must leave the Hortus at closing time.

As a Friend of the Hortus, you can visit the garden anytime of the year. The annual contribution is €46,- (one person) or €92,- (2 persons or a family card).
