Practical information for school visits

group division

Group size and the number of (parent) supervisors required differ per programme. Please check our information of the specific programme for the correct information: www.dehortus.nl/en/schoolvisits

food & drinks

Unfortunately, there is no suitable place inside the Hortus for eating or drinking together. Please take this into account when planning your visit. Eating and drinking is possible outside the Hortus entrance, around the large tree, or in the nearby Wertheim Park. We kindly ask that pupils bring a bottle of drinking water with them.

visitor rules

For some programmes, a Hortus guide will be present to guide the educational activity. However, the class teacher always remains responsible for the pupils’ behaviour. The Hortus is a living garden full of unique plants that we care for with great attention. In rare cases, the school may be held liable for any damage.
Rules for pupils: stay with your group, do not touch the plants, and do not disturb the gravel paths.

directions & travel advice

We recommend travelling by coach, bicycle, or public transport.

Public transport routes:

  • Metro 51, 53 or 54: stop Waterlooplein, exit Hortusplantsoen

  • Tram 14: stop Mr. Visserplein

preparation at school

Pupils who know in advance what to expect often get more out of the programme. We are currently developing teaching materials that schools can use to prepare for their visit.

cancellations

A booking can be cancelled or rescheduled free of charge up to 24 hours in advance. After this time, the full amount will be charged.
