Pride tour: gender diversity in the plant kingdom

In this tour, you will discover that gender diversity is not exclusive to humans. Many plants show different gender expressions: both male and female. You will learn how plants do this and why. This tour will also cover plants that have been important in the history of the LGBTQIA+ community.

Fun fact

The giant fern (Angiopteris evecta), like many of its fern friends, is non-binary. Ferns produce heart-shaped gametophytes from their spores. These green hearts ultimately ensure the reproduction of the plant. And these, in turn, are highly gender fluid. Sometimes male and female, sometimes one of the two, sometimes male first… and then back to female. Or vice versa. Pigeonholing is clearly not for the giant fern: this budding young fern curl unrolls its very own identity!

These tours are free (but entrance ticket required), but do register as full = full. There are 3 time slots available.
