With our adoption programme, you can support the Hortus in your own personal way. Choose a spot, a plant, or a specific purpose — anonymously or in your own name. The programme is available for both individuals and companies. The Hortus has Public Benefit Organisation (PBO/ANBI) status. Donations to the Hortus may provide additional tax benefits for both private individuals and businesses.

By joining our adoption programme, you directly contribute to the care and maintenance of our collection – while creating a special connection with your chosen plant.
Every plant in the Hortus has its own unique story or striking appearance. We’re certain you’ll find one that feels like the perfect match! Need inspiration? We’re happy to guide you. Already have a favorite species in mind? Check our collection to see if it’s here.
Adoptions start at €1,500 for a period of five years. As a valued adopter, you will receive:
- A personalized adoption certificate, symbolizing the bond between you and your plant
- A name or message of your choice displayed on a collection label next to the plant
Care for memories - adopt a bank

Scattered throughout our historic garden and greenhouses are 28 benches where visitors pause to rest, reflect, and enjoy the beauty around them. Many of these benches are the iconic Canapé benches, part of Amsterdam’s streetscape since the 1950s.
By adopting a bench, you create a lasting connection with the Hortus. For €2,500 (for a period of five years), you’ll not only support the upkeep of our garden, but may also choose to add a copper plaque with your name or a personal message – a tribute that will be seen and appreciated by thousands of visitors.

Care for the future- adopt a school visit

Not every school in Amsterdam can afford to bring their students to the Hortus. By adopting a school visit, you make it possible for children to experience the magic of our garden and learn about the importance of plants.
Your support can cover entry fees, transport, or guidance – removing the barriers that prevent schools from visiting. The Hortus is in contact with schools that benefit from this programme. You may also suggest a specific school or class from your choice.
With your help, every child gets the chance to discover nature at the Hortus.
