The Foundation has the following objectives:
1a. to manage and maintain the Hortus Botanicus in Amsterdam, including its documented collections of living plants and buildings, for the purposes of scientific research, conservation, exhibition, and education;
1b. to protect the cultural and historical value of the garden and its buildings;
and furthermore, to do all that is directly or indirectly related to or beneficial to the above, in the broadest possible sense.
The Hortus adheres to the Cultural Governance Code.

Remuneration policy
The direction of the Stichting Hortus Botanicus Amsterdam consists of one person, who is supervised by a Supervisory Board.
The Managing Director is classified in Scale 14-a according to the Collective Labor Agreement (CAO) for Welfare & Social Services (W&MD). Based on the exemption included in Article 383, paragraph 1, Book 2 of the Dutch Civil Code, no disclosure of the directors’ remuneration is made in the annual financial statements.
The members of the Supervisory Board perform their duties on a voluntary, unpaid basis.
The staff of the Hortus follow either the CAO for Welfare & Social Services (W&MD) or the CAO for the Hospitality sector.
